Unfuzz Your Headaches and Eye Strain

Headaches

Headache is one of the most excruciating pain almost everyone experiences at some point in their lives. It can kill productivity and stops momentum on its track. Left untreated, symptoms can become recurring and more frequent. The symptoms and location of pain may vary depending on the primary cause of the headache.

Types of Headache

Headache can come from various factors and although the photo above can give us an insight on where it is coming from (stress being the common denominator on all types), it is still very important to have a professional do a thorough evaluation to know exactly what the root cause of your problem is.

A lot of times especially to those who are working from home, the headaches that they feel comes from their neck. Headaches that originate from the neck is something that physiotherapists can work on and have a great lasting results than taking oral or topical medications to relieve the pain. (PS: excessive intake of oral medication can also induce headache)

ASSESSMENT & TREATMENT

To check if the neck is an issue, simply tuck the head back and rotate the neck on each side. If you feel a block or if range is limited, its a sign that the upper cervical joints are stiff along with the muscles and other soft tissues attached to it.

Eye Strain

Eye strain commonly happens with people who work in front of the computer for a long period of time. Along with the sensation of strain and soreness in the eyes, it may also cause dry eyes, blurry vision and headaches. You might also notice that usually they have an increased sensitivity to light.

Tips to Manage Eye Strain:

  1. Adjust the distance between you and your monitor. Eye strain can easily be prevented if we just set up our working environment properly. To adjust, simply place your arms forward between you and your laptop. This should be the distance between you and your monitor.

2. Install blue light filter on all your gadgets. Even if there is already a built-in blue light filter feature on your gadgets, oftentimes it is not enough. Study shows that continuous exposure to blue light for a long period of time can cause retinal damage. There are a lot of great apps in the market you can use depending on your preference. Here’s the app I am using:

3. Adjust font size of the text on your gadgets. If your work involves a lot of typing and reading words in the computer, more often than not the font text is quite small. Small texts works our eyes more than usual which can lead to eye strain too. To solve this, you can adjust the font size on the document you’re typing or you may use the zoom function of the documents to zoom in texts in documents or in the web.
